I am a professor of economics at the University of St. Gallen.

My main research field is Macro Public Finance. I study the effects of policies on individual behavior, inequality, government revenue and welfare. My goal is to provide transparent and concrete implications for optimal policy design. For this purpose, I combine theoretical, numerical and empirical methods.

Topics that I study with this approach include:
  • Labor Income, Capital Income and Inheritance Taxation
  • Income-Contingent Student Loans
  • Need-Based Financial Aid for College Students
  • Childcare Policies
  • Fiscal Effects of Immigration
  • Public Debt and the Welfare State
